Next Generation Steel Guitarist Joey Misailidis
Joey has enjoyed Hawaiian music from an early age. She particularly admired the music of Aunty Genoa Keawe, and dreamed of playing beautiful Hawaiian music on the steel guitar. Joey has been fortunate to have the opportunity to study the steel guitar under the guidance of Kumu Alan Akaka. Joey, now 11, has been studying steel guitar for two years and is one of the Ke Kula Mele Next Generation steel guitar players.
When she is not playing the steel guitar, Joey immerses herself in her other interests: competitive swimming, volleyball, robotics, and playing the double bass in her school orchestra.
